On March 10, the Ministry of Housing and Municipal Affairs fully implemented the 2024 BC Building Code (BCBC) seismic standards, which will have significant implications for Victoria, as well as areas of the Lower Mainland. The Ministry also announced that the previously proposed adaptable housing requirements would not be fully implemented, and instead will be phased-in, starting at 20% of units in residential apartment buildings on March 10, 2025.



Join UDI for this essential webinar to learn more about the latest 2024 BCBC requirements for seismic and adaptability, featuring expert insights from the Building and Safety Standards Branch (BSSB) and the Lead Consultant contracted by the Province for the Space and Cost Impact Reportand Illustrative Design Guide for adaptable units. During the session, the featured panelists will also discuss key findings and recommendations for implementation from the Report and Guide, as well as ongoing engagement planned with the development industry on the seismic and adaptability standards. There will also be a discussion on the upcoming model 2025 National Code requirements.

    Jun’ichi Jensen is the Director, Codes and Standards with the Province of BC’s Building and Safety Standards Branch. Before joining the branch, Jun’ichi worked as a carpenter and construction project manager. Since joining the branch in 2008, Jun’ichi has worked on several significant building code projects, such as the development and adoption of the 2012, 2018 and 2024 BC Codes. Jun’ichi also participates in the development of model National Codes. As Director, he provides leadership and strategic direction to support a range of key government priorities through building codes and standards.
