Event Details

Managing Project Financing is one of nine courses within the RaD Management Program offered by UDI Capital Region. This course provides participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to successfully secure financing for their real estate development projects. Led by industry experts, this course explores various aspects of project financing to ensure participants are well-equipped to navigate the financial landscape.


Throughout the course, participants will learn how to structure financing for different types of projects, understanding the unique requirements and considerations associated with each. They will gain insights into identifying potential sources of funding, evaluating the risks and benefits, and developing effective strategies to secure financial support.


Additionally, the course focuses on the art of pitching a project at each stage of the financing process. Participants will learn how to effectively communicate the value proposition of their project to lenders, investors, and other stakeholders. They will develop the skills to create compelling financial models, business plans, and presentations that demonstrate the feasibility and profitability of their development ventures.


Managing Project Financing covers the essential topic of navigating reporting requirements, allowing participants to gain an understanding of the reporting obligations and compliance standards associated with project financing.


By completing Managing Project Financing, participants will develop an understanding of the knowledge and skills needed to navigate the intricacies of securing financing for real estate development projects.

Three 2-hour modules, held once a week online for three weeks

    Dave Ganong has over 40 years of experience in real estate finance, brokerage, consulting, and development; having held senior positions with Morguard Trust Company, Mackenzie Investments, MRS Trust Company, Canada ICI Capital Corporation, and Colliers International. An active member of the local community, Dave has served on the Boards of the Urban Development Institute, the Capital Region Housing Corporation, the MS Society of Canada, the Victoria Civic Heritage Trust, the Victoria Golf Club, and the Songhees Development Corporation.

    Dave Ganong is President of Canada ICI Capital (Victoria) Corporation and specializes in real estate capital solutions, mortgage brokerage, advisory, and consulting services. Canada ICI Capital (Victoria) Corporation is a licensed mortgage brokerage firm specializing in the placement of construction and term financing for all real estate asset classes including CMHC-insured apartment financing.

    Outside of his interests in real estate and business, Dave is an avid cyclist and nationally ranked triathlete, competing in half and full-distance Ironman triathlons in Canada and the United States.

    Mark Holland RPP FCIP (he/him) is a Principal at Westplan Consulting Group with over thirty years of experience in urban planning and landscape architecture. Mark offers a unique and effective combination of private and public sector skill sets to lead projects from early visioning to policy development, to design and approvals and from financing to construction. A commitment to relentless innovation has driven Mark to challenge and push past the norms in all aspects of his work. He has won numerous awards and is credited with many innovations in Canadian Planning including sustainable communities, Agricultural Urbanism, creating urban vitality through Urban Magnets and many other progressive concepts.

    ​Mark has also made significant contributions as a planning educator. He began as an instructor in the University of British Columbia’s School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture in the early 2000s. Since then, Mark has been a frequent speaker on topics related to planning and sustainability at the University of British Columbia and Simon Fraser University. Perhaps his greatest influence on planning education is the role he played in launching the Master of Community Planning degree at Vancouver Island University (VIU) in 2014. Ever since, he has played an instrumental role in the school, driven by a commitment to ensure that the next generation of planners is prepared to help communities create their future.

    Mark is a Registered Professional Planner with the Canadian Institute of Planners and was inducted into the College of Fellows in 2022.
