Please join the Women of UDI as we tour Salal Apartments ​on the North Shore followed by an intimate chat with the women in different sectors of real estate development.

The project is the District of North Vancouver's first leased land partnership with a non-profit society, Sanford Affordable Housing Society​, which brings desperately needed rental housing to the North Shore. Our hosts from Sanford and Terra Social Purpose Real Estate will guide us through the affordable housing space and amenities, and dive deeper with the key personnel behind this highly anticipated non-market housing development about partnership, non-market housing space, women in development, and how can we all successfully work together to realize more such projects in the future.

We are fortunate to be joined by Janine Ryder from the District of North Vancouver; Feezah Jaffer from Sanford Affordable Housing Society; Aliya Tejani from BC Housing; Shelby Snow from Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure, Sarah Bingham from Adera and Kelly Lin from Terra Social Purpose Real Estate to share their experiences, discuss the systematic challenges in development and explore how can women in development help each other.

About the Salal Apartments: the Salal Apartments is a non-market rental development, funded by the District of North Vancouver, the Community Housing Fund under BC Housing, the CMHC Seed Fund and Vancity Foundation. The land for the project was made available through the strong effort of the District's Mayor and Council's to support the development of non-market rental housing in the municipality. The project went through multiple issues due to funding complications, multiple stakeholders (DNV, BCH, MOTI and Sanford), land use issues, design programming issues and construction issues. With the help of stakeholders and our neighbour developer, Adera, the project was constructed under budget and is ready for occupancy.
